About CGC

Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) is the world's leading comic book grading service, founded in 2000 as a sister company to NGC (coins). CGC revolutionized the comic collecting hobby by providing a standardized, impartial grading system and tamper-evident encapsulation that brought transparency and confidence to the market.

CGC uses a 0.5-10.0 numeric scale with precise increments. The grading process involves multiple expert graders who independently evaluate each book before a final grade is assigned. Books are assessed on cover condition, spine integrity, page quality, and overall structural soundness. CGC also notes restoration, pressing, and page quality (white, off-white, cream, etc.) on the label.

Beyond standard comics, CGC grades magazines, concert posters, lobby cards, and trading cards (via CGC Trading Cards). Their Signature Series authenticates autographs witnessed by CGC representatives, adding value while maintaining grade integrity. CGC's registry and census data help collectors track population and rarity.

CGC Grading Scale

CGC uses a 0.5-10.0 numeric scale with precise increments for comic book grading.
